Beanilla Homemade Vanilla Extract Infusion Kit {Review & Giveaway} Savvy and Sassy 2013 Holiday Gift Guide

With the holidays in mid swing I'm sure you have done some holiday baking. If you have then you probably used vanilla extract and paid a fortune for that little half ounce bottle. Did you know you can make your own vanilla? Beanilla.com sells kits to get you started.

The Beanilla Homemade Vanilla Extract Infusion Kit comes ready for you to make your own homemade vanilla extract. The glass swing top bottle contains 7 vanilla beans of your choice (yes there are types of vanilla beans, who knew?). Your choices include the one I chose, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Beans as well as Ugandan Vanilla Beans, Indonesian Vanilla Beans, Indian Vanilla Beans and Tonga Vanilla Beans.

The process is simple and just takes a few minutes. Open the bottle and remove the vanilla beans. Slice the vanilla beans in half so that the caviar of the vanilla bean can infuse. Pour in 8 ounces of the alcohol of your choice (I used vodka). Write date on label and shake. Give it a shake once or twice a week and in 8 weeks you will have awesome homemade vanilla.

I love this kit for a few of reasons. First, have you checked the prices of vanilla beans in the grocery store? Crazy expensive! Second, finding the right size and type of bottle for making vanilla extract is nearly impossible. Third and best of all it is super easy and makes a fantastic gift. In 8 weeks this homemade vanilla will be great for my Guinness Chocolate Cake and homemade vanilla bean marshmallows.

You can buy Vanilla Beans and all vanilla related baking products from Beanilla Trading Company. I would love to get the vanilla bean sampler next. Wouldn't it be fantastic to have vanilla in 7 different varieties.
