Considering Relocation? Moving To A New Home? Check Out My Top 10 Moving Tips {sponsored post}

*This is a sponsored post for Pack-Rat Moving and Portable Storage.*

I have moved 20 something times in my 30 something years so I am pretty familiar with packing up boxes.  Did you know 15% of US households move each year (6.7 Million Households), I didn't. That is a lot of moving!

Here are my best moving tips:

1. Get Organized - Clear out the clutter, packing boxes is a great time to get rid of things you no longer want or need. My mom's rule, if you haven't used it in a year and don't plan to use it in the next 6 months then you should consider selling, donating or throwing away.

2. Boxes - Craigslist is a great resource for getting cheap or free boxes. Best of all, after you unpack them you can return the favor to someone else moving.

3. Label - I label my boxes in detail. I print an 8 1/2 x 11 label for each box and label contents as I pack them. This prevents a lot of frustration and lost items. You can download my moving box labels HERE.

4. Put all parts and screws in ziploc bags and tape it to the item. Especially important for beds, cribs, tables, window hardware!!

5. Keep necessities needed for first day in new house in "FIRST DAY BOX". Mark it with colorful markers to easily find it in your sea of boxes.

6. Pack first night Bedding, towels, toiletries, change of clothes, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, coffee, coffee maker and supplies (very important in this house), bottled water, snacks, paper plates, plastic cups and cutlery in "FIRST DAY BOX"

7. Label Rooms in new house - this helps let everyone know where all of those labeled boxes go. If you have moving help it makes it easier for them to know where things are going without asking a million times.

8. Unload Boxes in to their final destination room. There is nothing worse than having to search for boxes in a packed garage.

9. MAKE THE BED BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!! - The first thing I do when I move is make the bed and get bedrooms partially functional. At the end of a long day it is nice to be able to just get in bed and go to sleep. The last thing you will want to do is try to assemble your bed and look for sheets.

10. Un-pack one box at a time. Put the entire box away before opening another. The temptation to rip all of the boxes open will leave you with a disorganized mess. Take the time you need to put your new home in order.

  1. Packing is most stressful & long task while moving. So, its good if movers have a plan for it. Packing with colour labels are always beneficial at the time of unpacking & to search an item in the packed boxes. Always try to start packing from the single room so that you'll be organise.
