Let me first tell you that 20 Mule Team Borax is a 100% natural occurring mineral produced by the perpetual evaporation of seasonal lakes. It is removed from the ground and then washed and dried. Nothing is added and it is boxed up. It is phosphate free, chlorine free and contains no other additive chemicals.
So many of us seem to be cursed by hard water (full of calcium and magnesium ions). These minerals prevent detergent from performing its fullest capabilities. 20 Mule Team Borax works to soften hard water which essentially protects detergents so that they do the job they were meant to do, clean our clothes and linens! It also helps keep stains from being redeposited back onto clothes during the wash cycle.

I love Borax. I use it for cleaning and for making my laundry detergent. A little goes a long way. You can sprinkle it in the john overnight and then scrub it in the morning, and it looks great!
